How music distribution works

How music distribution works

When we say distribution, it only means one thing and that is the delivery of any item from a central location to other multiple locations around it for the purpose of expanding the availability of this item for the consumption of consumers. How this concept applies to music is where distribution for music happens! When it comes to music distribution, there are two main formats; they are physical distribution and digital distribution. But in the 22nd century, there will only be digital distribution in music, unless of course we invent something magical in the physical realm. I already explained how music distribution works in the simplest form!

But let me take an example with apples from an apple producer… This apple producer takes time to produce the best apples for consumers to enjoy a healthy and satisfying life. He has a greater mission!! At first, this producer sells apples to nearby consumers and friends. As he realizes that his products are in high demand, he decides to find a good partner or company to distribute to popular locations. The company agrees to distribute the product to multiple stores, so that more people can enjoy fresh apples and help achieve the producer’s mission. But remember that apples from this producer are not the only product in these stores because there are hundreds of other producers distributed to these stores with the company, although taste and the quality of apples may vary. So, there is competition, and the market is saturated! In the very logical sense, that is why eventually producers try to promote their product over the competing products.

When you replace the word “apples” with “music” in the above section, you will know exactly how music distribution works!
